Earlier this month, Facebook announced that it would start using all the ever-so-bright information from the application and the website it collects to serve us with more targeted ads. In other words, Facebook is preparing to use our browsing history to benefit advertisers. In Last Few weeks Facebook had leaked millions of data. Of course, the fact that you are getting some new (and highly necessary) controls on how Facebook shares your data does not mean that you will stop collecting the data in the first place. Therefore, while we can at least limit a bit how all of our Internet habits are used, it does not mean that the data cache itself is going away.
In addition, the new feature is the exclusion, so to keep your browsing history away from other people’s eyes. You will have to actively address the Digital Advertising Alliance here and let them know you are not willing to share.
Considering how many of us also use the Facebook application, you probably want to do the same for your mobile device (s). For iOS users, open the settings and go to General> Restrictions> Advertising (in the “Privacy” section). Move the switch to Limit ad tracking, and you’re all set.
If unable to find Restriction option, directly search for Advertising then open and switch On Limit Ad Tracking.
If you use Android, go to Google Settings> Ads> Exclude interest-based ads, and that’s it, you can navigate in peace.
Facebook advertisers will not be able to serve you in such a scary way, and your privacy will be much more intact. Of course, that does not mean that Facebook advertisers would do something malicious with the data, but considering everything we do in the wild borders of the internet, it is better to be safe than sorry.
